More than 11 million Ukrainians became internally displaced because of the war

Because of the war, more than 11 million Ukrainians became internally displaced, including seven million who left for the safe regions of Ukraine.

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Human Rights, De-occupation and Reintegration of Temporarily Occupied Territories in Donetsk, Luhansk Regions and the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, the city of Sevastopol, National Minorities and Interethnic Relations Dmitry Lubinets said this during a briefing “Human Rights Violations in Temporarily Occupied Territories” at the Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform.

“If we were talking about internally displaced persons from the territory of the temporarily occupied Donetsk and Luhansk regions since 2014, it was about 1.5 million people. At present, according to our data, this figure is approximately 11 million citizens. 4 of them left the territory of Ukraine temporarily, 7 million were displaced within our state…”, he said.

He also spoke about the work of people’s deputies in the profile committee.

“With the intensification of Russia’s military operations against Ukraine, our committee has identified several priorities: fixing human rights violations in the territories occupied by the enemy, international activities, humanitarian assistance to the occupied territories, which was joined by deputies – members of the committee. We have created a working group headed by Taras Tarasenko. This group collects information on human rights violations, war crimes, crimes against humanity. We fix and try to transfer this information to colleagues from other parliaments of the world,” Lubinets said.

According to him, the committee initiated an appeal to all the parliaments of the world and the UN that everything that is happening now should be called not just a war, but a genocide of the Ukrainian people. “After that, the relevant Resolution of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine was adopted, the same resolutions were adopted by other parliaments. We initiated an appeal regarding the procedure for excluding Russia from the UN Security Council,” Lubinets added.

He also noted that the committee daily records crimes and violations of human rights in the temporarily occupied territories.

As reported, on February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Russian troops are destroying infrastructure facilities, carrying out massive shelling of residential areas of Ukrainian cities and towns using artillery, multiple launch rocket systems and ballistic missiles.
