The state of health of the former head of Rosnano Anatoly Chubais, hospitalized in one of the European clinics with a diagnosis of Guillain-Barré syndrome, improved. This was reported by TASS and Meduza on Monday, August 1, citing several sources close to Chubais.
On the eve of TV presenter Ksenia Sobchak, referring to Chubais’s wife Avdotya Smirnova, said that Chubais is in intensive care. “The condition is unstable. It became bad, arms and legs suddenly began to be taken away,” Sobchak wrote in her Telegram channel. According to La Repubblica, Chubais became ill during a holiday in Sardinia and was taken to a hospital on this Italian island.
Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov said that the Kremlin did not know the details of what had happened, wished Chubais a recovery and promised that if the former head of Rosnano asked for help, Russia would provide it.
At the end of March, it became known that Anatoly Chubais, who served as special representative of President Vladimir Putin, resigned from his post and left Russia. According to RBC sources, Chubais moved to Istanbul, but “was going to return” to Russia. The Kremlin later confirmed that Chubais resigned of his own accord. As reported, Chubais also left the board of directors of AFK Sistema and resigned from the board of directors of the Elektrozavod company.
Guillain-Barré syndrome
Guillain-Barré syndrome is a rare condition in which a person’s immune system attacks their own peripheral nerves. The disease can affect people of any age, but is most common in adults and men. The development of Guillain-Barré syndrome is often preceded by a bacterial or viral infection.
The first symptoms of the disease include weakness or tingling sensations. They usually start in the legs and may then spread to the arms and face. In some people, these symptoms can lead to paralysis of the legs, arms, or facial muscles. Most people make a full recovery from even the most severe cases of Guillain-Barré syndrome.
