Eight members of the medical team of the former Argentinean star football Diego Armando Maradona should stand trial on charges of causing death by negligence, according to Wednesday, June 22, AFP, citing a source in court. The exact start date of the upcoming process has not yet been named.
Among the accused are a neurosurgeon and Maradona’s personal doctor Leopoldo Luque. Maradona passed away in November 2020 at the age of 60, the official cause of death was a malfunction of the cardiovascular system. Three weeks earlier, Luque had Maradona undergo surgery to remove a blood clot on his brain.
“Abandoned to Fate”
The investigation suggeststhat the patient was discharged from the hospital too early, and his medical team did not provide him with sufficient care, leaving Maradona to his fate due to neglect and negligence. The defendants also include psychiatrist Agustin Kosachov, psychologist Carlos Diaz, medical coordinator Nancy Forlini, nurses and orderlies who worked with Maradona. They all deny their guilt. If convicted, they could face prison sentences ranging from eight to 25 years.
