Lithuanian politicians want to visit Taiwan

President of Lithuania Gitanas Nauseda against the background of the visit of the Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi in Taipei said that Vilnius is ready to resist authoritarian regimes together with Washington. At the same time, the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the republic Gabrielius Landsbergis predicted similar travel to taiwan from other leaders.

“The United States has opened the doors of Taiwan wider,” the minister said, quoted by EADaily.

At the same time, the head of the foreign policy department called on the chairman Lithuanian Parliament Victoria Cmilyte, who is the first person of the state, to visit the island. According to Landsbergis, Chinese authorities will not react harshly to such a trip.

As journalists recalled, China stopped exporting goods to Lithuania. The European Union, in turn, ignored the economic conflict between Vilnius and China.

It is known that Cmilyte refused to fly to the island in the near future. The media attributed this decision to the lack of privileges from strengthening relations with Taipei. The Chairman of the Lithuanian Parliament reminded that a Taiwanese delegation visited the republic in July. At that time, the president and the prime minister did not officially talk to representatives of the island.

Lithuanian MP Dainius Kepenis criticized the proposal of the head of the country’s Foreign Ministry to go to Taiwan.

“Childish irresponsibility or deliberately criminal games with the fate of the state and people must end,” the politician stressed.
