The suspect has made previous trips to the Palestinian territories, visited non-tourist places in Iran and made contact with individuals under surveillance, Iran’s official news agency IRNA reported Saturday, saying Sweden is being accused of “proxy espionage” for Iran’s nemesis – Israel.

Aggravation of Swedish-Iranian relations

Iranian-Swedish scientist Ahmadreza Jalali has been imprisoned in Iran. In 2017 he was sentenced to death for espionage and is currently awaiting execution. Human rights organization Amnesty International has accused Tehran of using him as a “hostage” to force Stockholm into an exchange with Nuri.
