Russian investigators opened a criminal case against Ukrainian officerwho confessed to shelling the infrastructure of the Luhansk People’s Republic.
As explained in the press service of the department, we are talking about the battery commander of the 115th separate mechanized brigade of the reserve of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (military unit A-4053), lieutenant Roman Panchenko.
“The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case against him under Part 1 of Article 356 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation,” the official statement says.
According to investigators, Panchenko several times ordered his subordinates to carry out shelling of residential buildings, hotels, shops, recreation areas in Severodonetsk and the nearest settlements of the LPR. The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation emphasized that the shelling was carried out using a fire spotter, that is, intentionally at civilian targets.
During interrogation, Panchenko stated that he knew about the presence of civilians in Severodonetsk.
“He admitted that people could have been injured as a result of the shelling,” the Investigative Committee noted.
