In Ukraine, it is necessary to create not a grain, but a cash reserve – minister

Ukraine has had a surplus of grain over the past 20 years, so there is no need to form a State Grain Reserve. It is expedient to accumulate not a grain, but a monetary reserve.

About this in interview Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Mykola Solsky told Ukrinform.

“In the classical sense, the State Reserve is not a primary goal for us. The state reserve is needed to protect ourselves in case there is no grain in the country… We live in a country that constantly has a surplus of grain, so our task is different – to make a reserve in money, not in grain,” Solsky said.

The minister also noted that the United States has been using a different approach for several decades – they are accumulating money, because they always have a huge grain surplus, so they see no reason to spend time and money on creating some additional reserve.
