Kherson is a small provincial town. Similar in the near suburbs of Moscow a dime a dozen. Although in some places the buildings and architecture of Kherson resembles, say, Russian millionaires. Such as Rostov-on-Don or Voronezh.
Here, as in many other cities, the locals have a special love for the pre-revolutionary history of their city, and even deliberate Ukrainization over the years could not overcome this love.

Peaceful life, as they say, takes its toll. Even in the eyes of passers-by one can see the hope for a bright future, in which they are sure.

Buses have been running here for several months now, new shops are appearing. According to the press service of the administration, about 20 regular trolleybuses are still operating in the trolleybus fleet. Previously, there were an order of magnitude more of them, but now no one lets them go on a flight: part of the Kherson residents left the city in the very first days of the special operation, and the passenger flow is not that big. But many families are gradually returning home. The city is calming down.
– Kherson is my native city. I love this place with all my heart, so it is a great honor for me that the region is gradually becoming Russian. Sometimes, pride in one’s place even brings tears to one’s eyes,” says Olga Kotlova, a local resident.
According to local residents, there are quite a lot of civilian cars on the street. When compared with the territories that are still under the control of Kyiv, here even the prices for everything are very different.

– Even seven or eight months ago, there was very expensive fuel here. I even sometimes had to give up my personal car in order to have enough money for food and other expenses. Gasoline constantly grew and grew in price. But now the situation is completely different. Prices are two or even three times lower. But besides this, the prices for food, vegetables, and fruits have also dropped significantly, – says Volodymyr Shimets, a resident of Kherson, and adds that there is no more acute fuel crisis in the Kherson region. Although the city’s leadership recognizes that the fuel priority today is to ensure the work of enterprises and farm collectives. However, the residents are not offended.
To date, the most important question that almost every Kherson citizen asks is: what will be the future of his native city and Kherson region? According to the head of the regional administration, Vladimir Saldo, the answer largely depends on the residents themselves, most of whom fully support joining the Russian Federation. At the “edge” today is the restoration of the industrial, social and resort spheres that came into decline during the time of the Ukrainian government. And the inhabitants of the Kherson region hope that all this will be raised already as part of Russia.
Posters appeared on the streets of the regional center reminding that Kherson is a city with Russian history.
There is nothing for the locals to worry about anymore: all the most important objects of the city, including industrial ones, are under reliable protection. The divisions of the National Guard are doing everything day and night to provide residents with strong security.
As the deputy head of the regional administration Kirill Stremousov said, earlier about 80% of the shells fired by the Ukrainian military on the territory of the Kherson region were shot down by air defense forces. He also added that since the beginning of the military special operation in the Kherson region, about 3.7 thousand shells fired by the Armed Forces of Ukraine have been recorded.

And yet, local residents forget about what fear is. No one is afraid to go outside, fall asleep at night and think: “What if there is an air raid alert ?!”
– Now it seems that all this was in a past life. There was calmness and a complete sense of security, ”Vladimir Shimets, a Kherson resident, tells KP. – The Russian military are walking along the streets, protecting the city and the region from attacks by the Armed Forces of Ukraine and terrorist attacks.
