Movement (exercise), relationships with people (social interaction) and a passion for learning new things are key factors in preventing brain aging and degenerative phenomena that lead to so-called senile dementia, or dementia, as well as Alzheimer’s disease. To this conclusion came scientists from Norway and Iceland, who analyzed studies of the state of brain activity, its ability to neuroplasticity, that is, the ability to form new neural connections under the influence of external stimuli and respond to them in the form of experiences.

Several lines of scientific evidence suggest that there is a marked positive effect of movement on brain physiology.

Especially held in high esteem by the brain:

– juggling training

– various practices of body awareness, what is often called meditative attention to one’s body,

– ballet and various dances,

– gymnastics.

It turns out that circus performers, for example, may well claim to have a clear mind even at a venerable age.

It has also been proven that for older people, aerobic training was especially useful in terms of increasing the white and gray matter of the brain, that is, any kind of moderate physical activity that involves many muscles and consumes a large amount of oxygen, which primarily trains the heart. vascular and respiratory systems. The effect was noticeable after 6 months of classes three times a week for 1 hour.

Scientists have also determined that a large number of social connections, communication with friends, family members, neighbors and colleagues, increase the complexity and intensity of mental stimulation. To maintain and develop satisfying relationships with different people requires mastering many skills, being resourceful and savvy, and the brain loves this. When communicating, a person tries various strategies, learns to take into account both his own interests and the interests of another, to think about the future, which contributes to the growth of neurons and the density of synapses (the place of contact of neurons), and this, in turn, protects brain structures from pathological processes. Studies show that people who are lonely, in bad relationships, and have weaker cognition, thinking and memory in older age. In addition, openness to communication, extraversion of character are positively associated with the development of brain areas involved in the knowledge of this world.

The more a person loves his occupation, feels passion for it, the better he achieves his goal and is more able to learn everything new. If we do what we really like and are still proud of it, tell about our passion to others, our mind pays us for this with activity, a good memory and the ability to solve problems in a new way. A good example is the passion for learning foreign languages, which strengthens nerve cells and their connections. The passion, involvement with which a person approaches the matter is associated with the production of dopamine (the hormone of joy), which in turn plays an important role in a person’s ability to concentrate and hold attention, to learn, and, as a result, to our ability to confidently and successfully go to its purpose.
