How to choose a good brake lubricant?

There are no motorists who would calmly react to any creak. And here it doesn’t matter at all what exactly makes this sound: an opening door or brake pads. The desire to get rid of it intensifies as the creaking gets louder and longer. Let’s figure out how and with what to lubricate the brakes so that they work silently.

Product range

The list of products in this group is huge. In addition, such products are designed to lubricate only some parts of the brake mechanisms, which greatly complicates the selection process.

It is important to know that all products of the above group can be divided into three types:

  1. Means for processing brake pistons when assembling the mechanism.
  2. Grease for guide pins.
  3. Anti-creak agents for non-working surfaces of pads and frames of the brake mechanism.

Means for non-working surfaces of the car

In this case, we consider lubricants for non-working surfaces of brake pads and frames of the brake structure. Most often, all funds are created on a mineral basis.

Release form and packaging may vary. Sometimes you can find small bags for single use, and there are also jars, tubes, spray bottles. The latter are easy to use, since there is no need to apply the product with your hands.

The above treatment agents have a number of advantages compared to lithols and graphite lubricants: they are able to cope with high temperatures, do not wash off and practically do not mix with penetrating dirt. It is important to note that lubricants for non-working surfaces of brake pads will not spare rubber, therefore contact of these materials should be limited.

Guide Lubricants

There are many requirements for the components in this group of processing tools:

  • such lubricants should not have a detrimental effect on rubber, since the guides have rubber caps, and sometimes bushings made of the same material. In addition, the composition must tolerate high temperatures well and not be afraid of the liquid.

The cost of goods is different.

Mechanism assembly tools

The last group includes lubricants that are used to install the piston in the cylinder. At the moment, there is only one such composition.

Castor oil with a low dropping point is taken as the basis of this remedy. It is used only for installation work and will be required for those people whose professional activities are related to the maintenance and repair of brake mechanisms.
