Hamas says Israel bombed the building with its prisoners

The spokesman for Hamas’s military wing, Abu Ubaidah, said on Sunday that during Operation Wall Guardian in May 2021, Israel allegedly attacked a building where captured Israeli soldiers were being held.

The statement was illustrated with photographs of Lieutenant Adar Goldin and Sergeant Aharon Shaul, who died in Operation Protective Edge in Gaza in 2014.

Their bodies are held by Hamas for the organization’s terrorist exchange fund serving sentences in Israeli prisons. Hamas persistently refers to the dead soldiers as “captives”.

Abu Ubeida said that during Operation Wall Guard, an attack was allegedly carried out “on the place where our people were holding two captured soldiers.” One of the guards was killed and three were wounded.

The speaker ended his statement by addressing the Israelis: “Your government is lying to you.”

A senior Israeli official, speaking on condition of anonymity, commented on the terrorist organization’s statement.

“We must not succumb to the provocations and manipulations of Hamas…” he said. – All these tricks, eight years after Operation Protective Edge, show that we have not faltered… Efforts to return our prisoners and missing have never stopped and will continue. Israel will not release murderers with blood on their hands.”

Recall: the statement was made against the background of the murder of Ukrainian prisoners in the temporarily occupied Olenivka, Donetsk region, which, according to Ukrainian intelligence, committed by mercenaries from the Wagner private military company.

In total, on the night of July 29, about 50 captured Ukrainian defenders were killed.

As noted in the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Russian military deliberately fired on the colony in Olenivka, where Ukrainian prisoners of war were kept.

Occupation forces in the temporarily occupied territory of Donetsk region at the request of the Ukrainian branch of the International Committee of the Red Cross denied employees of this organization access to Ukrainian prisoners of war in Olenivkawhich is a direct violation by the Russian invaders of the provisions of the Geneva Convention.
