About it informs Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
As indicated, the explosions occurred on July 28 on the territory of the colony’s industrial zone in a new building, where the invaders were going to hold captive Ukrainian soldiers evacuated from Azovstal. This destroyed the building, the equipment of which the invaders completed two days ago, moving part of the defenders of Ukraine.
“We note that the explosions in Yelenovka, which led to the death of Ukrainian defenders, are a deliberate provocation and an unconditional act of terrorism on the part of the armed forces of the occupier. According to available information, it was carried out by the hands of mercenaries from the PMC “Wagner” (League) on the personal command of the nominal owner of the specified PMC – Yevgeny Prigozhin. The organization and commission of the terrorist act were not coordinated with the leadership of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation,” the GUR stressed.
According to military intelligence, the main purpose of the attack was to hide evidence of the total embezzlement of funds allocated by the Russian Federation for the maintenance of Ukrainian prisoners of war. Intelligence found out that on August 1, a commission from Moscow planned to check the costs of the allocated funds and the conditions of stay of Ukrainians at the facility. “Since the actual state of the building and the conditions of detention of prisoners in it did not meet the requirements of the Russian leadership, the problem was solved by destroying the premises, along with the Ukrainians stationed in it,” the GUR said.
The second purpose of the explosions in Yelenovka, intelligence calls the increase in tension among the population of Ukraine. The authors of the scenario of the committed terrorist act could take into account the high public interest in the fate of the heroes of Azovstal, hoping to provoke an increase in social tension in our state.
In its turn, SBU informs about the interception of telephone conversations, in which the invaders confirm that it is the Russian troops who are to blame for the tragedy in the colony in Yelenovka. There are several such audio interceptions – all of them will be included as evidence in the relevant criminal proceedings, which the special service has already opened under Article 438 of the Criminal Code (violation of the laws and customs of war).
“Judging by the conversations of the militants, the Russians could have caused a tragedy due to the explosives that they placed in the premises of the colony. In particular, none of the eyewitnesses heard any rocket flying into the correctional facility. There was no characteristic whistle, and the explosions occurred on their own. The intercepted conversations confirm that the Rashists placed their Grad launchers near the correctional facility and began firing them at the territory controlled by Ukraine. However, no retaliatory shelling was observed – this is confirmed by the militants of the “DNR” themselves,” the SBU stressed.
The special service notes that, judging by the videos available on the social network, windows in some rooms of the colony have completely survived. This indicates that the epicenter of the explosion was located inside the destroyed building, and its walls extinguished the blast waves and “saved” the neighboring premises. Also, a preliminary analysis of the video shows that such traces of the explosion on the walls most likely could have been left precisely because of the “internal source” of the explosion.
“In general, there is a lot of evidence that the Armed Forces of Ukraine did not carry out rocket and artillery strikes on the area of the Olenevka settlement. Consequently, all statements by Russian propaganda about alleged shelling by the Armed Forces of Ukraine are blatant lies and provocations,” the SBU said.
Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine started pre-trial investigation on the fact of explosions in Yelenovskaya colony No. 120, which led to the death of about 40 and wounded 130 Ukrainians, including captured military personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and civilians. Criminal proceedings were opened under part 2 of article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of the laws and customs of war, combined with premeditated murder).
As reported, on July 29, Russian propaganda media reported that as a result of an alleged strike by ZSU on a penal colony in the occupied Yelenovka, Volnovakha district, Donetsk region, where Ukrainian prisoners of war were kept, 53 people were killed and 75 were injured.
AT The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine indicatedthat the artillery shelling of the colony in the occupied Yelenovka was carried out by the troops of the Russian Federation in order to hide the torture and execution of Ukrainian prisoners of war held there, and by statements that the colony was shelled by the Ukrainian Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Russian occupiers are trying to accuse Ukraine of committing “war crimes”.
human rights activists declaredthat the death of several dozen Ukrainian prisoners of war, who are being held by Russian invaders on the territory of the Yelenovskaya correctional colony No. 120, occurred due to an internal explosion, and not due to shelling, since there was no sound of an arrival characteristic of it.
It is in the colony located in the occupied Yelenovka contain Ukrainian defenders from the Mariupol military garrison, including fighters of the Azov National Guard Regiment and the 36th Naval Infantry Brigade of the Ukrainian Navy, who left the territory of the Azovstal plant blocked by Russian troops in May.
At 4 am on February 24, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a “special military operation” in the occupied Donbas. Russia launched missile strikes on the territory of Ukraine and launched a direct full-scale invasion in four directions. The armed forces of Ukraine are rebuffing the enemy, the blitzkrieg plan – to capture Kyiv in two or three days – failed, the Russian army retreated from the capital. The Russian military commits thousands of war crimes and crimes against humanity throughout Ukraine.
