Ambassador of Ukraine in Berlin Andrey Melnik said that Germany will send the IRIS-T air defense system to Kyiv.
In an interview with Ukrinform, the diplomat said that the Ukrainian side managed to conclude a contract with Diehl Defense, which produces IRIS-T, for the purchase of the first missile defense system. Moreover, Berlin itself will pay for these weapons, the cost of which is 178 million euros.
Melnyk also expressed hope that Germany would transfer 10 IRIS-T to Ukraine. The Ambassador called these air defense systems one of the “coolest” in the world.
In addition, Kyiv expects to receive 100 German Panzerhaubitze 2000 artillery mounts, Melnyk said.
“I am waiting for a green light from Berlin for the purchase of 100 new Panzerhaubitze 2000 self-propelled guns, we have already received a corresponding offer from German industry,” the ambassador said.
Former Minister of Defense of Ukraine Alexey Reznikov stated that the country’s Armed Forces received German Ph2000 howitzers.
