Germany insists on Ukraine’s full EU membership – Burbock
Germany insists on full membership of Ukraine in the European Union.
This was stated by German Foreign Minister Annalena Burbock at a joint briefing with her Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Kuleba in Kyiv, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
“Today it is clear to me that Ukraine is unequivocally a part of Europe, so I understand a very convincing application for Ukraine’s membership in European Union – for full membership… We insist on Ukraine’s full membership in the European Union. We want to carry out an in-depth reform in the European Union, and this will be science after this aggressive war,” Burbock emphasized.
In her opinion, now is not the time to “consider the paragraphs” – the time has come to take a very clear position between war and peace.
“We will find a way for Ukraine’s participation in the European Union, and we will confirm that Ukraine belongs to the European Union,” the German minister stressed.
As reported, on May 9, Ukraine submitted the second part of the questionnaire for obtaining the status of a candidate for membership in the European Union.
On April 18, President Volodymyr Zelensky handed over the completed first part of the questionnaire for Ukraine to obtain the status of a candidate for EU membership to the head of the European Union Delegation Matti Maasikas. This questionnaire was personally handed over to the Ukrainian side by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, during his visit to Kyiv on April 8.
Zelensky signed an application for membership in the European Union on February 28, 2022.
