In a letter to Judge Brian Cogan it was ordered that the clothes that Genaro García Luna will be allowed to wearwho faces a trial for drug trafficking and alleged links to the Sinaloa Cartel.
Defense of García Luna requested to allow photos and statements of meetings with senior officials
In a document addressed to Judge Brian Cogan, the government was asked to identify the specifics of the defendant’s post-arrest statements.
The document dated January 12 establishes “that it accept the following civilian clothes for the defendant in the aforementioned case, Genaro García Luna 59745-177, and that he has these clothes available for ”, can be read.
The authorities indicated that the clothing allowed for the former Secretary of Public Security, during the administration of former President Felipe Calderón, will be the following:

He accused that the accumulation of money and goods is not related to the alleged bribes he would have received from the Sinaloa Cartel.

Furthermore, during his morning conference President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) ruled on the trial faced by García Luna in front of US authorities
The president said interested in learning about the process and took the opportunity to mention that some people from the “old regime” were “spoiled”:
“The García Luna trial is going to be interestinghow they remained silent, they applauded the moments of repression, torture, massacres, buying consciences, loyalties, that’s why it will be very good, much very good judgment. To me I care a lot about following up” AMLO detailed in the conference on January 12.
It should be remembered that just last January 10 the Genaro García Luna’s defense asked Judge Brian Cogan to be allowed to present evidence about meetings of the defendant with high-ranking US officials.
According to defenders, the american government aims to present evidence on the role of García Luna in the actions of Mexico and the United States regarding the conflict with criminal organizations, but also try not to present new evidence about such facts.
According to the defense, the defendant had encounters with US officials for the purpose of fight drug cartels of Mexican origin, as well as to review the transfer of illicit substances from Mexico to the United States.
Also the defense of Genaro Garcia Luna requested that block information about wealth of the defendant from 2012 arguing that would have no relationship with the assumptions bribes linked to the Sinaloa Cartel.
“Given the lack of evidence linking Mr. García Luna’s wealth after 2012 to allegations of bribery while still in the Mexican government, examples of luxurious behavior, luxurious residences and significant expenses simply are not relevant to jury determination”, could be read in the document dated January 9.
According to the file signed by Florian Miedel, César de Castro, Valerie Gottlieb and Shannon McManus, information about García Luna’s wealth may affect the process because invites speculation. “They are deeply damaging because they invite the jury to speculatewithout evidence or foundation, that his way of life in Miami it was only possible thanks to bribes which he accepted earlier.
