The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba nominated the former Prosecutor General of the country Irina Venediktova to the post of Ambassador of Ukraine to Switzerland. About it Kuleba said in an interview with Ukrinform on Wednesday, August 3rd.
“Yes, I signed the submission (the President of Ukraine. – Ed.) for the appointment of Ms. Venediktova as Ambassador to Switzerland,” Kuleba confirmed. “It is absolutely normal when we bring people from outside into the system, but always with competencies that allow them to effectively perform the functions of an ambassador. I believe that Venediktova has these competencies. Her work with international partners in recent months has shown that she can prove herself,” the Ukrainian Foreign Minister explained. According to him, this idea “was born in the circle of several people.”
The resignations of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine and the head of the SBU
President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky On July 17, he released Irina Venediktova from the post of Prosecutor General of the country, at the same time he signed decree on the resignation of the head of the Security Service of Ukraine Ivan Bakanov. Venediktova was the first woman in the history of the country to hold this position and has held the position since March 2020. From July 28 Andriy Kostin is the Prosecutor General of Ukraine.
Commenting decision to resign Venediktova and Bakanov, the head of state said that the reason was in large numbers criminal cases on high treason and collaboration activities “among employees of the prosecutor’s office, pre-trial investigation and other law enforcement agencies.”
“Such an array of crimes against the foundations of the national security of the state, as well as the ties that have been recorded between the employees of the law enforcement agencies of Ukraine and the special services of Russia, raise very serious questions for the relevant leaders. Each of these questions will receive a proper answer,” Zelensky said.
