Every third Russian believes that the Sun revolves around the Earth

More than a third of Russians believe that the Sun revolves around the Earth. For 15 years, the number of such people has grown from 28% to 35%.

This is stated in research of the All-Russian Center for the Study of Public Opinion on the scientific awareness of Russians, Ukrinform reports.

As they say, 61% of Russians surveyed know that the Earth revolves around the Sun.

As part of the study, they were also asked whether radioactive milk would be safe if it was boiled, whether primitive people could walk with dinosaurs, whether genetically modified foods cause cancer, and whether they will help overcome hunger.

The Russians gave the most correct answers to questions about radioactive milk and dinosaurs. 44% of Russians are sure that GMOs can cause cancer, but this is 23% less than in 2014.

According to the results of the survey, sociologists divided the participants into three groups according to the level of scientific literacy: a low level (21% of Russians); medium (44%) and high (35%).

The group with a high level of scientific literacy is dominated by young people: 61% of 18-24-year-olds gave five or more answers. This group also has more Internet users – 49%. the Internet – 49%. But in the “ignorant” group, 43% actively watch TV.

On February 24, the Russian Federation began a new stage of the war against Ukraine – a full-scale invasion. Polls show that the majority of the population of the aggressor country supports this war, which the Kremlin calls a “special military operation.”
