European Council chief faces bombing during visit to Odessa, hides with Ukrainian prime minister in bunker | World

Russia fired a total of seven rockets at Odessa on Monday, hitting a shopping center and consumer goods depot. One person died and five others were injured, the southern headquarters of the Ukrainian army said on Tuesday night. According to him, firefighters continue to fight the flames.

The attack took place at the time of the visit of the President of the European Council Charles Michel, who had to take refuge in the shelter together with the Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Šmyhal.

The Ukrainian General Staff stated in its regular morning report that the Russian army continued to attack in the east of the country in an effort to gain full control over the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. Fighting continues for the villages of Vojevodivka, Toškivka, Nyžně and Kamjanka. In Mariupol, Russian troops continued artillery and air strikes on the Azovstal steelworks complex, which is the last refuge of the city’s Ukrainian defenders.

The previous day, Ukrainian troops had reportedly repulsed 15 enemy attacks and destroyed one air defense system, nine tanks, three artillery systems, 25 armored combat vehicles and three special engineer vehicles. Six civilians have died in the Ukrainian-controlled part of the Donbas as a result of Russian shelling, the General Staff said. The data could not be independently verified. At the same time, the army command warned of the possibility of Russian sabotage in the plants of the Ukrainian chemical industry.
