EU wants to use Balkans to fight Russia – Politico

Europe plans to improve relations with a number of small Balkan countries to combat the growing influence of Russia and China. Writes about it Politico.

According to the publication, the most profitable option for the EU is to include Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo, Serbia and North Macedonia into the organization.

“If the EU continues to keep them at arm’s length, the alternative for these countries may be closer rapprochement with the Russian Federation,” the article says.

The author of the article also added that Europe should not be afraid of the fragile economic situation of the Balkan states.

Otherwise, Moscow and Beijing will seize the moment and attract about 18 million people from these countries to their side, the journalist believes. As the observer emphasized, under such circumstances, unresolved disputes in the Balkans are capable of “undermining the position” of the West.
