EU may reach agreement on embargo on Russian oil within a week
French Foreign Ministry Secretary of State for European Affairs Clément Beaune says the European Union could reach an agreement on an embargo on Russian oil, which Hungary is now blocking, “within a week.”
This is reported sud westreports Ukrinform.
Bon also spoke about telephone conversations scheduled for Tuesday on this issue between French President Emmanuel Macron, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
“I think we can have an agreement within a week, we’re working hard on it,” Bon said.
“We must move quickly, and I say this with confidence: there will be a sixth package of European sanctions, they will be very powerful, and we will gradually, on schedule, first give up Russian oil, but also Russian hydrocarbons in general,” the Secretary of State added.
As Ukrinform reported, on May 9, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, during a meeting with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, clarified Hungary’s position on the EU sanctions policy and energy security and expressed her intention to strengthen cooperation with regional partners in the development of oil infrastructure.
