EU may agree to sign 20-year LNG contract with Qatar

Leading Research Fellow at the Center for Arab and Islamic Studies Boris Dolgov commented on Pravda.Ru Bloomberg report that Qatar will offer the European Union a contract for the supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) for a period of 20 years.

“Probably, from Qatar’s point of view, a 20-year contract is beneficial for it. Perhaps this is so, since market prices, energy market prices can change both upward and downward. Probably, this situation does not suit Qatar, which is now benefiting from such long-term contracts,” Dolgov said.

He believes that against the backdrop of the European Union’s rejection of Russian fuel, Qatar’s proposal may turn out to be quite attractive for Brussels.

“After the European countries refused Russian gas imports, Qatar became one of the most significant energy exporters. Perhaps European countries will make concessions regarding contracts with it,” the source said.

Thursday, June 23 Bloomberg said that Qatar may require the European Union to sign a long-term contract for 20 years for the supply of liquefied natural gas.
