On Thursday, January 12, a Komsomolskaya Pravda journalist asked an official representative of the Kremlin to answer the following questions…

… – Dmitry Sergeevich, I’ll just plunge into history with you. On February 11, 1993, the title of “Marshal of the Russian Federation” was approved. And for all the time this title was awarded only once, in 1997 Defense Minister Igor Dmitrievich Sergeev became marshal. Unfortunately, he is no longer in the world. I just thought that now the Ministry of Defense, the General Staff, the head of the Northern Military District Valery Gerasimov has a very large amount of work. And the work is massive. Maybe this just corresponds to the marshal rank? Does the Kremlin, the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, have such plans?.. Still, if there is a rank of marshal, why not assign it to people who, in fact, are probably now doing marshal work?

– I do not have information about the existence of such plans – said the spokesman.

– Then – on the same topic, – I continued. – Maybe you remember, on April 12 last year, at the Vostochny cosmodrome, I asked Presidents Lukashenko and Putin … In general, there were such half-joking questions and answers. Lukashenka said that Putin had long promised to confer on him, a lieutenant colonel, the rank of colonel. And, they say, if Putin gives him a colonel, he will assign Putin a general. And Putin said: if he promised, we will do it. Don’t you think it’s time, given the current situation, to take these issues seriously as well?

“No, I don’t think so,” Peskov said.

– Thank you.
