Deputies of the former Opposition Platform for Life in the Rada cannot be deprived of mandates – Stefanchuk

The official demise of the Opposition Platform – For Life (OPPL) faction in the Verkhovna Rada does not affect the parliamentary mandates of its members.

Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk said this in an interview Ukrinform.

He explained that due to the fact that the number of people’s deputies in the Opposition Platform for Life has become less than 17, this faction, according to the Regulations of the Verkhovna Rada, ceased to exist in parliament.

“It is clear that this does not affect the deputies who were and are its members. What is it connected with? The Constitution contains a clear list of grounds for deprivation of a parliamentary mandate. We are following the path stipulated by the Constitution of Ukraine, and we cannot act in an illegal way,” Stefanchuk said.

At the same time, the speaker of the parliament expressed the opinion that the best option for the destruction of pro-Russian political forces will be demonstrated by the people of Ukraine in the next elections.

“This will be a legitimate way in which we can clear the power of pro-Rashist influences,” he stressed.
