Denisova urged Moskalkova to provide information about all Ukrainians taken to Russia.

The Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Lyudmila Denisova called on the Ombudsman of the Russian Federation Tatyana Moskalkova to provide her with information about all Ukrainians deported to Russia – adults and children.

This was reported department press officereports Ukrinform.

“I once again urge Moskalkova to provide me with information about all Ukrainians taken to Russia, adults and children, and to ensure their return to Ukraine or to other countries of their free choice,” Denisova stressed.

She recalled that on Monday the permanent missions of 50 UN member states issued a joint statement on the occasion of the 77th anniversary of the end of World War II.

In particular, the representations of the UN member states noted that for many decades the international community has been working to preserve and strengthen international peace based on freedom, equality, justice and respect for human rights. They stressed that a full-scale war of aggression had returned to Europe.

The Ombudsman’s Office recalled that since February 24, 2022, when the Russian Federation launched a new wave of aggression against Ukraine, the situation revives memories of the atrocities of World War II. The consequences of further Russian invasion are terrible not only for the people of Ukraine, but for people all over the world.

50 UN member states noted that they are witnessing the cynical attempts of the Russian Federation to appropriate and use the memory of the victory over Nazism to justify this full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

“We must not allow the rule of law to be replaced by the right of force, and we must oppose any attempt by force to change the internationally recognized boundaries of sovereign states,” UN member states said in a statement.

It is emphasized that the task of every civilized country, every human rights institution is to take maximum measures to restore peace to Ukraine and Europe, to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe and famine as a consequence of the war, and to establish the rule of human rights.

And Denisova, among other things, noted that the Ombudsman of the Russian Federation, who is entrusted with the duty to ensure guarantees for the protection of human rights, cannot continue to stand aside and ignore the massive violations of the rights of Ukrainians both on the territory of our state and on the territory of Russia, where they are forcibly deported by the Russian authorities.

Therefore, the Ukrainian Ombudsman called on Moskalkova to provide her with information about all Ukrainians taken to Russia.

As Ukrinform reported, on March 14, Ukrainian Ombudsman Lyudmila Denisova said that the actions of the Russian Ombudsman Tatyana Moskalkova, who, according to her, supports Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, are incompatible with the Ombudsman’s mandate.
