– How do you see Argentina’s game against Croatia?

– It will be very hard. In the semifinals you can’t expect anything other than a tough match. Croatia, even though they beat Brazil on penalties in the quarterfinals, was not the favorite and still went through the round. That is a very important boost for them.

– Do you like how the National Team plays?

– Yes a lot. He’s had a bit of bad luck in the last month with some injuries to key players. But I see the group very well, united and that adds up a lot. One goes in, another comes out and there are no differences in the game. I trust this team to death.

Diego (Maradona) bitching at the so us in the anthem, the round of 16 against Brazil… These are things that stuck with me. Even though I was little, I remember all of that.

– And the Argentine goal that you remember the most?

– The one that comes to mind Caniggia to Brazil in the 90. the goal of Maxi Rodriguez to Mexico In Germany 2006 it was one of the ones that I shouted the most because it was a game against the goat, closed and Maxi put that tremendous kick from any side. It was impressive. Of the goals in Brazil 2014 I also remember a lot because I was at all the games with a group of lifelong friends. shout out the penalty Lautaro Martinez against Netherlands with my son it was also Awesome.

– Did the Davis Cup feel like the World Cup?

– Yes, because it is the only competition in which you really represent the flag. The rest, even though you are always Argentine, is more individual, more your name than the country.

– Why did you transform into the Davis Cup?

– Because you have another responsibility. In Davis you represent a lot of people who spend fortunes to go see your games, who suffers, who enjoys, who screams, whores, who cries. You generate a lot of emotions. All of this, just as it has its beauty, it also has its bad side because you feel a very different pressure. There are players who like it and others who don’t. I loved it because they were different moments from those that are lived in the circuit. It filled me with energy, with desire. It was like enter a war.

– Between Davis and winning a Grand Slam, what did you choose?

– The Davis, without a doubt.

– You had a very good relationship with Maradona. How did you find out and how did you take the death of him?

– I found out through the media. She had seen him less than a year ago when she went to direct with Gym to Cordoba. I already saw it very complicatedWhat delivered in the last moment. He is an icon that is hard to replace, with all the good and all the bad. Because of the kind of life he had, news like this can never surprise you.

– You’re a River fan. How did you experience the departure of Marcelo Gallardo and the arrival of Martín Demichelis?

I know them both. The Gallardo thing was a amazing cycle. I thought it was going to cut off a lot sooner. After the final in Madrid against Boca, he could have left in peace. I am eternally grateful that he has stayed for so long and has done so many things for the club, the fans and the players. A Micho (Demichelis) I’ve known him from when he played, for many years. In the last time he was in Germany I lost track of him, but I think it’s fundamental have those types of references that come from playing and directing abroad, in a football more modern, with another head and other ideas. It is not only good for new players to start training them, but also for the club it is important to have that line.

In 2023 I won’t travel anymore. Now I’m helping him with the preseason, but after that it ends. I spent two years with him and I feel that we have different priorities. It is better that he remain calm on his side and I on mine.
