State Duma deputy, political scientist Ruslan Balbek explained that for Crimean Tatars means May 18 – Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Deportation of the Peoples of Crimea.
According to him, the Crimean Tatars recall the tragic events of May 1944 with pain in their hearts. The parliamentarian noted in an interview with FAN that in the Russian Crimea, with the help of the decree of the President of the Russian Federation on rehabilitation measures Crimean peoples they managed to turn over the “dark page of history”.
“We look to the future as part of a multinational Russia. And this is the main thing. In the Ukrainian period, May 18 was a day of massive political manipulations, when people were gathered for a funeral procession, and then they began to put pressure on local authorities, passing it off as popular indignation,” Balbec said.
He added that only the Mejlis* received preferences from such events. The deputy stressed that when people honored the memory of their ancestors, the members of this organization earned money. As Balbek explained, the question of rehabilitation has never been openly raised in Ukraine.
Now, the political scientist pointed out, the rehabilitated Crimean peoples are patriots of their land, who make a huge contribution to the prosperity of the peninsula.
