BEIJING, Jan 13 (Reuters) – A representative of China’s immigration office said on Friday that 1.35 million people have applied for passports and visas for Hong Kong and Macao since Jan. 8, the date the country opened its borders after three years.

“The number of applications for entry and exit documents will continue to increase steadily in the near future. The National Immigration Administration will dynamically adjust the management service measures to provide the necessary convenience for applicants to travel smoothly,” he said in a press conference Liu Haitao, director general of the Border Inspection and Management Department, under the Chinese National Immigration Administration.
