Chernobyl may happen again in Ukraine – Rosatom

The Ukrainian company Energoatom said that in order to cover the shortage of electricity, all the power units of nuclear power plants, except for two, which are under the control of Kiev, are operating at maximum capacity.

The Russian Rosatom commented on the statement of the Ukrainian energy company, emphasizing that such use of more Soviet power units could lead to a repetition of the situation in Chernobyl.

“Such exploitation of old Soviet power units may end up with a new Chernobyl,” Rosatom noted.

Earlier, Energoatom stated that all three nuclear power plantsoperating on the territory of Ukraine were automatically disconnected due to a drop in the frequency in the power grid.
