“Tell me, Kisa, as an artist to an artist: do you know how to draw?!” – asked Ostap Bender. So many of us, looking at the “masterpieces” of amateurs who have discovered a picturesque gift in themselves, are asking the same question. On the one hand, one does not want to pass for an ignoramus, and on the other hand, one does not want to be deceived by mistaking a fake for art. KP.RU remembered the top 5 creators whose works cause only laughter among specialists, but at the same time they are sold for a lot of money or exhibited in museums.

Hollywood actor Pierce Brosnan went to art school as a child and even worked as an illustrator. His work is quite specific – lurid and naive. As Brosnan himself justifies himself, the ideals for him are the masterpieces of Kandinsky, Matisse and Picasso. His works are bought quite well, the price tag for them is from one to five thousand dollars (65 – 320 thousand rubles). The scandalous son of the American president, Hunter Biden, turned out to be rich in talents. Recently, an exhibition of his work opened in an art gallery in New York. Anyone can buy one of them – abstract flowers on a yellow-gold background – for 225 thousand dollars (14.5 million rubles), the price of a small house somewhere in Kansas. The owners of the gallery said that Hunter’s painting already has two potential buyers who wished to remain anonymous.

According to gallery owner Georges Berges, compared with last year’s debut in the current creations of Biden Jr., progress is noticeable. Last year, Hunter’s paintings fetched between $75,000 and $500,000.

Apparently, in order to soften the image of a drug addict and a debauchee, the American press, according to gallery owners, talks about the subtle spiritual organization of Hunter Biden. The fact that the opened vernissage is nothing but introspection and reflection of the artist, who was at the center of the investigation of his activities in Ukraine.

– For most of his life, he aspired to be an artist! says Berges of Hunter.

Anyone can offend an artist. The creation of abstract artists for the Tössfeld football club from the Swiss city of Winterthur caused both shock and laughter at the same time.

And it all started harmlessly: the city authorities allocated 28 thousand francs (1.8 million rubles) for the design of the club hall of the local football club. Two artist sisters Morin and Stephanie Kägi, who exhibited their works at exhibitions in Germany for several years, got down to business. Their project was my favorite. However, the result was far from admirable. Representatives of the city council were the first to criticize him, followed by local residents in social networks. “At first I thought it was the work of night vandals,” one user remarked.

The girls were laughed at online. In their defense, the artists said that they initially showed their design project to many young people and that they liked it. While working on the design of the hall, the sisters tried to draw parallels between football and art. Hence the blue chaotic lines, like football players running across the field, boots, balls…

What is the further fate of football abstractionism remains a mystery. It is possible that the local authorities will turn it into a new tourist attraction.

Contemporary art is sometimes difficult to understand. As they said in the movie: “Is the toilet not working or is it a work of art called “The toilet is not working”?” Now the employees of the Museum of Modern Art in Danish Aalborg are puzzled over this – either they were robbed, or they were presented with a new installation.

The artist Jens Haaning, commissioned by the museum, had to reproduce his early work, which showed the annual income of an Austrian and a Dane. To create the installation, the author needed money, and he turned to the museum workers, who provided him with 534,000 crowns (5.4 million rubles) in cash.

The museum did not appreciate the creative idea and demands that everything be returned to the penny. But the artist disappeared somewhere.

After some time, the artist sent the long-awaited works to the museum, but instead of frames with attached banknotes, museum workers received two empty ones. However, the installation received a new name – “Take the money and run.”

Haaning’s conscience does not torment him.

EXPERT COMMENT

“You can also stick a banana with tape”

Maurizio Cattelan managed to sell a banana and a piece of scotch for $120,000.

Maurizio Cattelan managed to sell a banana and a piece of scotch for $120,000.

“For a work to become art, you need the artist’s personality, a museum space and good PR people,” explains Nastya Chetverikova, a culturologist, author of the podcast and book Art for Boys. – In modern art, it is not the technical embodiment that is more important now, but the idea that the creator laid down. Thanks to this idea, any object can become a work of art. Everyone, of course, can stick a banana to the wall with tape, but only the Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan was able to sell it for 120 thousand dollars. Because the public is interested in the personality of the artist and the message of his work.

The price of a painting depends not only on the name of the artist, but also on how many times and in which galleries this or that work was exhibited. Now business and art are closely adjacent, often collectors can promote a once unknown artist, for example, as Charles Saatchi – Briton Damien Hirst. Saatchi gave him money and offered to create something big, and he put up a tank where a gutted tiger shark was placed in a solution of formaldehyde. The picture was called “The physical impossibility of death in the mind of the living” – this expressed the idea of a person’s fear of his own death and an attempt to escape from these thoughts. Adds value and an interesting history of the creation of the work.
