Biden announced the elimination of the leader of al-Qaeda

The United States conducted a successful anti-terror operation in Afghanistan using a combat drone, eliminating al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri.

The relevant statement was made in a live video message by US President Joe Biden, Ukrinform reports.

“On Saturday, on my orders, the United States conducted a successful air strike in Kabul, Afghanistan, killing al-Qaeda emir Ayman al-Zawahiri,” the head of the White House said.

He specified that there were no casualties among the civilian population during the operation.

“People around the world no longer have to fear this evil, determined killer,” the US President stressed.

He noted that the United States has demonstrated the determination and ability to protect people from threats of this level.

Recall, 71-year-old Ayman al-Zawahiri was the second person in Al-Qaeda after Osama bin Laden, was directly involved in planning and preparing the attacks on September 9, 2001. In 2011, he led this terrorist group.

Earlier, information appeared in the media that al-Zawahiri had died. However, last year he recorded a video dedicated to the tragic anniversary of the events of September 11 in the United States.
