Berries rot on Polish farms due to lack of workers from Ukraine

In Poland, berries are rotting on farms due to a lack of seasonal workers, the situation may worsen every week. This was told by the President of the Polish Association of Fruit Producers, Member of Parliament Miroslav Malishevsky on the radio.

According to him, this is primarily due to the fact that it is forbidden to leave Ukraine for men who worked in past seasons picking berries.

As an option Poles are considering attracting workers from Uzbekistan.

‚ÄúThere are not enough workers. First of all, there are not enough men who would take on harder work, such as driving a truck, tractor or spreading fertilizer. We have information that now, due to the crisis in Russia, more than 4 million citizens of Uzbekistan have returned to their country, now they are unemployed and ready to come to Poland,” Maliszewski said.

Last year, Poland also experienced problems with picking berries amid the closure of borders due to the pandemic.
