The Belarusian special operations forces are deployed in the southern direction as part of the second stage of verification immediate reaction forces, said the Chief of the General Staff of the country Viktor Gulevich.
“In order to ensure the security of the Republic of Belarus in the southern direction, the forces of the units of the special operations forces are deployed in three tactical directions,” Gulevich quotes Website of the Ministry of Defense of Belarus.
According to the chief of the General Staff, the decision to deploy special operations forces was made in connection with the increase in the number of military personnel near the borders of Belarus by Ukraine.
“The grouping created by the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Southern Operational Direction with a total number of up to 20,000 people also requires a response from us,” Gulevich said.
He spoke about the deployment of battalion-tactical groups of the Armed Forces of Belarus to the Western and North-Western operational directions, which will be reinforced by air defense units, missile forces and artillery.
Former head of the Ministry of Defense of Belarus Viktor Khrenin told reporters that a check of the immediate reaction forces had begun in the republic in connection with the holding of exercises “Defender of Europe” by NATO countries near its borders.
