ADELAIDE, Australia (AP) — Paula Badosa withdrew from her semifinal match in Adelaide on Friday with a thigh injury, giving Daria Kasatkina a free ticket to the final.

Kasatkina (seeded 5th) will face Belinda Bencic in Saturday’s final after Veronika Kudermetova opted not to take the field against the Swiss with a left hip injury.

Badosa, who will be seeded 11th at the Australian Open which begins on Monday, would face American Caty McNally in the first round at Melbourne Park.

“I think he was playing very good tennis, at a high level,” said the Spanish tennis player. “I have played three really good games. I think that also helps me in confidence for the upcoming tournaments. What has happened now has been something that I cannot control. So is this”.

Badosa played sets of 74 and 81 minutes in her quarterfinal match on Thursday, a win over Brazil’s Beatriz Haddad Maia. The Spaniard said that she had suffered a muscle strain in the match.

“Today I have felt a little bit worse, so yes, I have the Australian Open ahead of me and hopefully I will recover for that,” he said.
