The President received Astrakhan Governor Igor Babushkin in the Kremlin. A real ecological catastrophe has been going on in the region for many years now. desertification. According to the Russian Academy of Sciences, already half of the former agricultural land unsuitable for growing vegetables and fruits.

– But there are also problems – desertification. How much did the level of the river fall – by 60 centimeters? – Putin is aware of the problems of the southern regions.

Babushkin, in response, confirmed that the climate is changing in the Volgograd region, Kalmykia, and Dagestan. It is necessary to solve the problem with the help of science and melioration. But the river, at least this year, has nothing to do with it.

– Today it (the level of the Volga – Ed.) is at such a fairly decent level. Last year we noted a very significant shallowing, – said the head of the region.

The governor added that during the flood the authorities store water so that the farmers will have enough later.

At the same time, it cannot be said that the agricultural business in the region is especially ill. During the year, 63 billion rubles are invested in it. Two crops are harvested per year for one potato.

“We are reviving rice growing, producers are investing in the repair of reclamation systems that were lost earlier,” Babushkin said.
