Ankara refuses to recognize referendum results
Ankara cannot recognize legitimacy accession to Russia four new areas. According to the Turkish authorities, such a step is a “gross violation” of the principles of international law.
As explained in the department, Ankara stands for “a just peace that can be achieved through negotiations.”
“This decision (on joining. — Note. ed.) is a gross violation of the established principles of international law, cannot be accepted by us,” the Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
As explained in the ministry, Ankara is still ready to act as an intermediary in the negotiations between Ukraine and Russia.
