AMLO denied having disagreed with Joe Biden and Justin Trudeau at the Northern Leaders Summit

President Andrés Manuel Lopez Obrador (AMLO) faced criticism for his participation in the X Summit of North American Leaders (CLAN) and denied having disagreed with his counterparts from USA (USA), Joe Biden either Justin TrudeauPrime Minister of Canada.

The Chief Executive assured that the meeting was held “within the framework of a good neighborhood”, and even, under this tenor, affirmed that the economic stability of Mexico is due to “that good relationship” between the three leaders of the region.

“It was a productive and fraternal meeting within the framework of good neighborliness. There are very favorable elements (…) It was possible to maintain that relationship of cooperation and integration, ”he commented in the morning of this January 12.

Once his point was clarified, López Obrador gave the floor to the Secretary of Foreign Relations (SRE), Marcelo Ebrardto inform the details and agreements raised between the delegations of Mexico, the US and Canada.

Among the measures proposed, the Mexican foreign minister highlighted that the proposal proposed by the Mexican Chief Executive of to integrate The Team of Twelve – made up of four members per country.

“Its responsibility is to speed up the pace so that 25% of what they import from Asia, the US, Mexico and Canada is produced in North America,” he specified and stressed that the implementation of said strategy would mean a growth of more than two points for the Aztec nation, as estimated by the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP).

The foreign minister reported that North America will seek to establish the criteria for labor mobility in a general way in the region; highlighting the initiatives and programs of the three nations in each component of the matter:

– Strengthen regular, safe and predictable pathways for labor mobility, such as the Seasonal Agricultural Worker Program in Canada.

– To advocate in 2023 and 2024 the ease of access to US citizenship to one million 250 thousand compatriots who have the requirements to access said right.

After highlighting the actions implemented in Mexico to reduce polluting emissions, Ebrard Casaubón recalled the nation’s commitment to achieve up to 35% reductions by the year 2030.

He also mentioned that after presenting sound plan On behalf of López Obrador, the delegations from Canada and the US promised to participate to develop “a common plan” on the issue of electromobility and semiconductors.

The three nations pledged to improve the control of chemical precursorswith special attention on fentanyl – the potentially deadly drug that has caused more than 100,000 deaths in the United States.
