The famous phrase from the novel by Ilf and Petrov “The Twelve Chairs” about helping drowning people (“The work of helping drowning people is the work of the drowning people themselves”) once again confirmed its relevance. This time in Los Angeles, where the police urged citizens not to drive nice cars, not to wear expensive jewelry and move around the city in groups.

The reason for the concern of law enforcement officers was the increase in crime, especially the number of attacks on citizens with the use of firearms.

“Due to an increase in crime, we ask the public, if they are going to wear expensive jewelry or drive expensive cars when leaving restaurants, cafes and other places, to be aware of their surroundings and stay in well-lit places. We ask them to realize that there are criminals who are ready to attack them, and in many cases these people are armed with firearms, – curled city police chief Angels Michelle Moore.

He said that over the year, the number of robberies in the metropolis increased by 18%, and the number of offenses with the use of firearms – by 44%.

Moore said that the police are taking all possible measures to prevent and investigate such crimes, but citizens need to take care of their own safety on their own. And above all, this concerns the advice not to flaunt your wealth, so as not to provoke intruders.

Moore also recommended changing travel routes and not staying on the street alone, so as not to become an easy victim for robbers.

Earlier, the city police said that they were unable to guarantee the safety of tourists, now it seems that the matter has come to the townspeople themselves.
