Days ago, Customs authorities discovered another important shipment of hashish, a psychotropic substance, at the Ezeiza International Airport. The event occurred when specialized agents of the General Directorate of Customs-AFIP carried out the procedure, due to suspicions of the presence of narcotics in a package that had entered the country via courier.
The troops suspected a centrifugal vacuum cleaner that came from a package sent to an Argentine citizen from the United States. Inside the mechanism, 17.4 kg of the cannabis product was found. The value of the product amounts to 21 thousand dollars.

According to a statement from the body chaired by Guillermo Michel, the National Economic Criminal Court No. 4, in charge of Alejandro Catania, is involved in the investigation of the case and the fate of the substance.
However, it is not the first shipment found, but the largest. In recent years, it was found in small packages, always hidden in parcels.
Hashish, according to the investigation by the customs and police authorities, is an infrequent substance on the dealer menu that, however, “is becoming fashionable in our region.”
Brazil is the main destination in South America and, in June 2021, the largest load of this drug was seized: 4.3 tons transported on a sailboat, which was sailing to the city of Recife, coming from Portugal.
“Hashish is a substance that has psychotropic effects similar to those produced by marijuana, generating euphoria, satisfaction and also cognitive alterations that affect the central nervous system,” Customs authorities explained in the statement.
A week ago, the agency had received confidential information that a neighboring country, Paraguay, had kidnapped five parcels with this hidden drug. In that case it came from California, United States. The cargoes, held at the Silvio Pettirossi Airport, had the Triple Frontier as their final destination. Thanks to this information, the General Directorate of Customs was put on alert and generated risk profiles in order to avoid possible entry into the country by courier.
The seized substance has a difference with marijuana, it lies in the levels of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), the active chemical in cannabis that affects the nervous system. The THC in marijuana is found in the plant at a maximum level of between 25% and 30%, meanwhile, hashish can be up to twice as potent as it can reach up to 60% concentration.
