A rally in support of Ukraine and its movement to the EU was held in Sweden

In the capital of Sweden, in Stockholm, a rally was held in support of Ukraine and granting it the status of a candidate for membership in the European Union.

According to Ukrinform with reference to a public organization Nordic Ukraine Forumthe rally was held on the eve of the historic EU summit on June 23-24, which will consider a decision on granting Ukraine candidate status for EU membership.

It is noted that the shares took partin particular, Minister of Foreign Affairs Ann Linde, Ambassador of Ukraine to Sweden Andriy Plahotniuk, singer and actress Arya Saionmaa, as well as representatives of various political parties, public organizations, diplomats and volunteers.

“Together we say: grant EU candidate status to Ukraine; heavy weapons for Ukraine; sanctions and a tribunal for Russia,” the public organization noted.

In his speech, Ambassador Plahotniuc thanked Sweden for helping Ukraine, in particular for the latest military aid package that was approved by the Swedish Parliament that day, and for Sweden’s support for granting Ukraine candidate status for EU membership.

The head of the Swedish Foreign Ministry assured that her country, the EU and other partners would continue to provide political, economic, humanitarian and military support to Ukraine.

“And we support the proposal to grant Ukraine the status of a candidate for EU membership. Although great challenges remain on the path to EU membership, this historic signal that Ukraine is part of the European family is important for the future of the country,” Linde said.

As Ukrinform reported, on June 17, the European Commission recommended that the European Council confirm Ukraine’s prospect of becoming a member of the EU and grant it candidate status.

Representatives of the European Council will hold a discussion on granting Ukraine the status of a candidate country for EU membership at a meeting on June 23-24.
