Earlier, a radiologist at the Ilyinsky hospital near Moscow, Pavel Popov, said that one of the women who was undergoing treatment for coronavirus in their hospital showed signs of “black mold” – mucormycosis.

“Although this is to a greater extent an endemic infection, characteristic of a certain climate with high temperatures and very high humidity, it can also develop in our conditions with severe immunosuppressive conditions, as well as illiterate use of drugs,” the infectious disease specialist explained.

The expert added that “black mold” can primarily develop in patients with diabetes mellitus, in conditions of severe immunodeficiency, with an overly active and illiterate use of hormonal and antibacterial agents. Under such conditions, according to the doctor, a person becomes an “easy prey” for fungal infections, which include “black mold”.
