167 cases of monkeypox confirmed in the Netherlands

So far, 167 cases of monkeypox have been confirmed in the Netherlands.

“To date, 167 cases of monkeypox infection have been identified in the Netherlands,” the statement said.

It is noted that last Thursday there were 95 more, according to the National Institute of Health of the Netherlands (RIVM). Growth is happening faster than expected.

Recommendations on how to protect yourself from the disease and how to deal with symptoms are expected to be released this week after expert consultation.

In the Netherlands, monkeypox is predominantly diagnosed in men who have had sex with men.

As Ukrinform reported, the monkeypox virus can enter the body through the mucous membranes of the mouth, nose or eyes, as well as through open wounds.

European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) considers the risk to be low large-scale spread of monkeypox among the population.
