″27 times ″yes″: Scholz congratulated Ukraine on the status of an EU candidate | News from Germany about Europe | DW

On the 120th day of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine, Russian troops continue their attempts to capture the settlements of the neighboring country. The Armed Forces of Ukraine and its territorial defense units are resisting aggression. It is impossible to quickly verify the statements of representatives of both sides of the conflict from independent sources. According to the UN, about 14 million Ukrainians have already left their homes. DW is following developments on Friday, June 24th (Moscow time).


The United States plans to supply additional weapons to Ukraine for another $450 million. Among them are four more HIMARS missile launchers. This was reported to Reuters two representatives of the US government.


German Chancellor Olaf Scholz (Olaf Scholz) congratulated Ukraine and Moldova on their admission to the group of EU candidate countries. “27 times yes!” Scholz wrote on Twitter. “The European Council welcomes two new candidates for EU membership. For good cooperation in the European family!” – such a wish was expressed by the head of the German government.

Earlier, the heads of state and government in Brussels unanimously voted to declare Ukraine and Moldova candidates for EU membership. Scholz had already advocated for this during a visit to Kyiv a few days before the decision was made.
