Peruvian writer Vargas Llosa joined the French Academy

Famous Peruvian writer Mario Vargas Llosa elected to the oldest French academy in the world. This was reported by the press service of the academy itself.

“Vargas Llosa was elected in the first round and will take the seat at number 18”, – the message says.

The case of the election of a writer who published his works in a language other than French was the first in the history of the academy. In addition, for 85-year-old Vargas Llosa, another exception was made in the form of an age limit, since, according to the rules of the organization, at the time of election, a candidate must be no more than 75 years old.
