Canada will choose fighter for the Air Force between F-35 and Gripen

The Canadian Department of Defense has excluded the American corporation Boeing from the competition for a new fighter for the Canadian Air Force, CBC reports citing informed sources.

According to them, the Super Hornet fighter does not meet the technical requirements of the Canadian Air Force. Therefore, now the Canadian military department will choose between the F-35 from the American corporation Lockheed Martin and the Gripen from the Swedish Saab. The winner of this competition will take the place of the main fighter of the Canadian Air Force. The total amount of the contract is estimated at 19 billion Canadian dollars (about $ 15 billion).

In April 2021, it was reported that the Canadian Ministry of Defense intends to select a new fighter as the main one for the country’s air force. It is assumed that the replacement of combat vehicles will begin in 2025.
