The reform of the Huelva bus station will begin this summer

The Ministry of Development, Articulation of the Territory and Housing has awarded the company AFC Construcciones y Contratas the Comprehensive reform of the bus station Atlantic Gate from Huelva which, after nearly 30 years of existence, will undergo accessibility improvements and energy efficiency at your facilities. The remodeling of the terminal will have a budget of 633,095 euros financed 80 percent by European funds Feder and will start this summerwith a term of execution of six months.

“Huelva needed a modern bus station, adapted to the current demands of the four million passengers who pass through its facilities every year”, indicated the Minister of Public Works, Marifrán Carazo, who has stressed that these works will also mean “an greater integration of the station to the city and its surroundings”.

Likewise, he has indicated that this improvement in benefits will also help “to attract more passengers on public transport, which is one of the priorities that we have set for ourselves from this Ministry.” In this sense, he has also highlighted that the planned schedule has been met so that “the works start this summer, as we promised with the neighbors and users”.

The terminal, inaugurated in July 1993, had become obsolete and needed extensive renovation and updating to adapt to current regulations, but also to improve the service provided to users. In this sense, the reform of Puerta Atlántico will be noticed above all in the center of the station, which will have more accessible pavement and more waiting areas, urban furniture and trees.

In terms of accessibility, all station services will be connected with accessible and safe pedestrian routes, from the outside of the building to the platforms. Likewise, the ticketing system and signage will be renewed, as well as the adaptation of both the furniture and the toilets or the renovation of the floors and pavements with the installation of signaling and tactile bands.

Regarding the energy saving measures, the renovation of the entire lighting system stands out, as well as the epidermis of the building (facades). Likewise, the toilets and other services of these facilities will be adapted with more sustainable means.

Finally, a new bicycle parking will be installed to promote intermodality. Likewise, the exterior waiting space will be remodeled with landscaped areas and tree-lined shaded areas, conceived as a CO2 sink and as an element of thermal control.
