The Port of Huelva will shortly start the construction of a new roro ramp

The Port of Huelva In its meeting of the Board of Directors this Thursday, it has announced the imminent start of the works related to the project of the new roro ramp on the South dockfacilities with similar characteristics to the existing facilities, which will allow four ferry-type ships to dock at the same time.

Today’s session was chaired by the president of the Port of Huelva, Pilar Mirandawho has assured that “the growth perspectives in the movement of general merchandise in the Port of Huelva make it necessary to build a new ro-ro platform, which will increase port operations with the implementation of new shipping companies, which will complement our current connections regular maritime services with the Canary Islands and Northern Europe”.

The construction project for the new roro ramp has been awarded to the Ferrovial Construction company. It has an execution period of 16 months and a budget of more than 19.4 million euros.

Likewise, the Board of Directors of the Huelva Port Authority (APH) has given the green light to 17 public domain authorizations for the granting of concessions and administrative authorizations, which reflects the dynamism of the economic activity existing in its service area. Among these authorizations, seven stand out for the implementation of new companies in the Lonja de la Innovación, the first Fiware node of a global port nature.

On the other hand, the president of the Port of Huelva has highlighted the positive evolution of port traffic during the first eight months of the year, since between the months of January and August there has been an increase of 6.28% in the total volume moved in the Port of Huelva, which has exceeded 21 million tons. She highlights the increase registered in the movement of liquid bulk, with 5.47%, reaching 16.5 million tons.

Regarding the movement of solid bulk, the evolution has also been positive, registering 3.3 million tons, which represents an increase of 6%. General merchandise has also grown with a total movement of more than 889,293 tons, 19.2% more than the same period of the previous year. The number of containers has risen to 54,264 TEUS, 4.59% more than in the same period of the previous year. As for the number of passengers on the regular lines with the Canary Islands, more than 46,691 users have been recorded, which entails a significant growth of 63%.
