Border Sticks commemorates the 530th anniversary of the departure of the Discovery Shipss from the Port of Palos to the new world. An event that has marked the history of Humanity. For this reason, the Palos de la Frontera City Council has prepared a series of events to celebrate one of the most important days for the province and Spain.
After several years of pandemic, these celebrations have been reduced to simpler acts for health reasons. On this occasion, the solemnity that such an event deserves is recovered and the participation of different local and provincial institutions, as well as that of the entire town.
The Real Sociedad Colombina Huelva, the Sociedad Palósfila Pinzoniana, the municipal corporation, headed by Mayor Carmelo Romero, the different brotherhoods of the town and other authorities, will be present at this important event for Palos del la Frontera.
“The history of the Discovery of America begins in Palos de la Frontera and bears the signature of the intrepid sailors from Palermo. It is a boundary that changed the world and the conception of Spain. A pride for all of us”, highlighted the first mayor, Carmelo Romero.
The acts will begin on August 3, at 9:00 p.m., with the reception of the authorities and the floral offering before the monument to the distinguished sailor from Palermo, Martín Alonso Pinzón. All this in Comandante Franco Square.
Next, the presentation of the poster of the Patron Saint Festivities of the town will take place. Some festivities in honor of the patron saint of the municipality, the Virgen de Los Milagros, which will take place from August 13 to 16. All this with a program full of activities for all audiences.
