The former player and former national selector Jose Antonio Camacho has sponsored this Tuesday the grassroots football tournament in Punta Umbría Costa de la Luz CUP Santander.
In the presentation of the event, José Antonio Camacho highlighted “the importance of sport in the training of boys and girls and the positive values that it transmits and that are displayed in tournaments like the one we are presenting today”.
For the former national coach “working from grassroots football in the education of children is as important as achieving the sporting goals that we set for ourselves”.
The ‘Costa de la Luz CUP Santander’ of Umbria Point It will be played between May 27 and 29. Teams such as Real Madrid or Fútbol Club Barcelona will participate in it. It is expected that 251 matches will be played and the presence of more than 1,500 athletes.
The mayor of Punta Umbría, Aurora Águedo, highlighted in the presentation of the Costa de la Luz CUP Santander in Punta Umbría “the support of the City Council for an event that brings together two of the potentialities of Punta Umbría, such as tourism and sports”.
Aurora Águedo has stressed “the importance of some 8,000 people arriving in the town thanks to the event on the last weekend of May. This clearly helps us to fill Punta Umbría with this championship and is very important for hotels, businesses and companies in the area”.
In addition to the former coach, the event was attended by retired players such as Francisco Buyo, Jesús Vázquez, Iván Rosado, Raúl Molina and Juan García Soriano, and a large number of players and former players from the Real Club Recreativo de Huelva who have also supported the event.
Likewise, journalists and sports commentators have attended, such as Tomás Roncero, who has been given the captain’s armband for his support of the tournament since its inception, and Ángel Acién, who has been in charge of leading an act in which had a special memory of the recently deceased journalist Santi Roldan.

The captain’s armband was also handed out at the presentation to six-year-old Darío Martín Martínez, who continues his fight against spinal muscular atrophy.
In the tournament, in addition to Real Madrid and Barça, the lower categories of First Division teams such as Sevilla FC, Real Betis Balompié, Villarreal, Rayo Vallecano, Levante, Málaga, Cádiz, Elche or Grenade. Added to these teams are two of the main Portuguese football academies: Benfica and Sporting de Portugal.
96 teams from all Andalusian provinces and 10 autonomous communities from the Alevín, Benjamín and Prebenjamín categories will play in the tournament. It is estimated that a total of 1,600 players and technicians pass through the Punta Umbrian facilities during those days.
