the mayor of HuelvaGabriel Cruz, visibly moved, opened the Colombians 2022 turning on, after two years of blackout, the biggest cover in history and the 875,000 points of light that will illuminate six parties. Dedicated to the United Kingdom, with outstanding premieres and a strong commitment to musical programming, this edition presents all the incentives to become unforgettable.
Las Colombinas remain faithful to their origin and their founding meaning, setting their sights on this edition in the United Kingdom, to dedicate them to the British legacy. Since the mid-nineteenth century, the English remained in Huelva for decades, leaving a good part of their mark on this land, both tangible and intangible, a cultural mark that survives and forms an integral part of our history and “with this dedication, we intend pay tribute to the United Kingdom, showing off a British heritage that we are proud of.”
“Today our Big Week begins, Las Colombinas start, some special Colombinas, because of what was expected, because of the illusion and the desire that we all had to enjoy the joy of the party, to live together sharing, but also to do it by celebrating our history. and valuing our cultural identity”.
In the presence of the British ambassador to Spain, Hugh Elliott, Gabriel Cruz drew attention to a dedication that is reflected in the poster, the cover, the exhibition booth, and the concert planned for Saturday, July 30, by the group of Alternative rock and Scottish pop from Glasgow, Texas, a legendary band from the 90s with more than 40 million records sold worldwide, led by Sharleen Spiteri.
The majestic cover echoes this dedication to the United Kingdom by recreating one of the houses of the Historical Complex declared a Site of Cultural Interest, in the Reina Victoria neighborhood, simulating one of the characteristic facades of the Barrio Obrero. An element that is also recreated in the new scarves that debut this year on the fronts of the booths, providing uniformity, harmony and aesthetic enhancement, and that will be one of the characteristics of the renewed image of the festivities.
As for the Exhibition and Communication area, in the Municipal Booth, it includes a television set, where Huelva TV will carry out programs and connections to bring the festivities to all homes; and a space that houses the exhibition on the English legacy that is exhibited in the Casa Colón to tell whoever visits it the impact that the English presence had on the city at an ethnographic, cultural, architectural, sports, landscape, etc. level.
Six days of twinning, coexistence, music, shows, attractions and many proposals to finally enjoy the Colombine Festivals begin. And for this, the 21,000 points of light of the largest portal in history, were extended to the porticoes of the main street of the enclosure, activating the spectacular lighting made up of 875,000 points of light, 9 porches, 100 arches and up to 7 zones of garlands.
