The Minister for Industrial Policy and Energy, Jorge Paradela, met today with the Association of Chemical, Basic and Energy Industries (AIQBE) made up of 20 plants that represent the most significant nucleus of industrial activity in Huelva, with almost 9,400 related jobs, an aggregate turnover of more than 10,000 million euros, and a input to the Gross Added Value (GVA) of 1,151 million, 11% of the province.

Paradela wanted to take advantage of this meeting with this “referential” association to convey the commitment of its Ministry to make both the Huelva chemical pole and the Campo de Gibraltar, in Cádiz, “preferred renewable energy areas”, within a European regulatory framework still incipient, “in which we intend Andalusia to be a pioneer, in our objective of improving the competitiveness of the industry through energy improvement”.

Thus, it has indicated that the Andalusian Government will allocate all the administrative, legal or economic resources to promote the industrial and logistics areas of Huelva as favorable areas for renewable energies in order to accelerate the development of projects and other infrastructures that help this segment consolidate and grow in the coming years, leading the energy transition.

“Huelva has a specific weight in industry, energy and mining both because of the importance of its companies, including those represented in the AIQBE, and because of its commitment to a more modern and more sustainable activity,” said Paradela, who has influenced the synergy between these sectors. “Our mission is to make energy a lever for the industrial development of Andalusia and its
Maybe the industry is the provider of technological solutions for energy”.

He recalled that the Ministry has several lines of incentives that are addressed to the industrial sector and, among them, he mentioned the program of energy efficiency actions in industry, which is managed by the Andalusian Energy Agency, and which currently has €60 million available to help these companies face this transition.

Relevant role of renewable energies

In this sense, the counselor has valued the role of renewables. “We want to make the most of the potential of the region and that Andalusia is the first community in Spain in renewable energies in this legislature”. And in this objective, he has considered, green hydrogen will be essential. “We bet that
Andalusia is a world reference in its implementation, and in Huelva the ideal conditions exist for its development to be especially pronounced and significant”.

He also highlighted the support offered by the European Commission, which yesterday authorized the granting of national public aid worth 5,200 million euros to launch an initiative of common European interest whose objective is to promote the deployment of green hydrogen. 13 States participate in the initiative, including Spain, which contributes seven projects, two of which will be based in Andalusia, one in Huelva and the other in Campo de Gibraltar, in Cádiz.
